Day eight walking— Whitby to Robin Hood’s Bay

If you believe that walking is a spiritual journey, then you have to believe, someone is looking out over you
We left Whitby this morning in the rain, always a challenge, so on the way out of town, I popped into a hiking store and purchased a rain cover for my back pack, my own one was toast. Then it was up the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey.

Whitby Abbey is an Anglo-Saxon monastery for both men and women, dating from AD657, the building was damaged and rebuilt in 1220 as a Gothic church.
Looking back as we leave Whitby

You realize how quaint this village is. We loved our stay, but we have somewhere to walk to, which we are looking forward to.
Today was not long, but the terrain slowed us up and challenged our legs,

The wet trail got super slippery in places, and I could tell that MB was not having her best day. Her hip was challenging her a bit. We got the a cattle gate where I got the rainbow photo, and we decided to take off our rain gear, it’s really hot in rain gear, so off it came ,,,,, and down came the frogging rain,,,,, back on went the rain gear.  We took a break at a bench a mile later. MB walks up, throws down her pack, kicks it and falls it stupid. I couldn’t help but giggle, which didn’t help. Anyway, all was good and we kept going past the old lighthouse and fog warning station near Maw Wyke Hole .
The Whitby fog horn, I would NOT want to be near this when it goes off

Whitby light house

Fantastic scenery today
It was about 3 hours into Robin Hood’s Bay , and we had dried out a bit , I got one was glad to end todays walking.
An old ROCKET POST, Once used by the coast guard to practice firing rockets at ships masts. They would carry a line and sailors would be rescued by riding the line back to shore. This system was used from 1923 till 1980, until the Sea King Helicopter took its place.

Robin Hood’s Bay and harbor in the distance
Approaching the town, all we could think of was a beer

A quick shower after checking into the Grosvenor Inn, then down to the Bay z hotel for a later lunch, this is where the Coast to coast hike ends. A Guinness, Tomato Bisque, and seafood medley, now who’s a happy camper.

A good day.
I never listen and walk to music etc, I feel like it gets in the way of the meditation and spiritual journey, but today, cold and damp, I figured that a little music would help us get through the last mile or so. I make up a mixed list of songs I like, and I have the Cranberries, the peanuts, and of course, Eminem’s, I called it my Trail mix.
Saw this old Armstrong Siddley in the local parking lot, brings back memories
