day four-Clay Bank to Kildale, 10 miles
mosstly well made paths at first, a couple of nasty climbs, then a gradual ascent onto the summit of the highestpoint on this walk at 454m/1490ft.
absolutely NO supply points today, Mary Beth, no coffee, and aa big uphill, oh shit!!!!!!!!.
We left the hotel by cab and started at the.trail point, the rain was coming down but I did not think it would last long l decided to NOT use my rain gear. MISTAKE!!!!!’
By the time we started the first climb, it was too late, the rain came crashing down and there was no way we could stop and unpack the wet weather gear.

Enough time to get the ponchos on, and protect the bags
Photos were not an option as you couldn’t see more than 100 ft through the fog.
The trail at the top was great all day, pretty flat, lots of sheep and red grouse, and of course rain
There was no one around, most likely stayed in bed, but we ground it out all day till we got to trails end at Kildare.
There was nothing there, just about 5 houses and in the valley, a railroad station
Once we realized there was no where to stay, and we couldn’t hail a cab, we went to the rail station, which turned out to be a bus stop next to the tracks. A good opportunity to change into dryer gear and wait for the next train in 45 minutes
Feeling a bit warmer, we got the resin to The next town, found a pub, and has soup,,,,, and beer
Funny how the Guinness thingy happens when your chilly and wet.
Starts like this,
ends like this,
And THEN,,,, this happens
Could not find a place available here either, so we decided to get a fancy hotel in Saltburn by the Sea, it’s our stop tomorrow night, so we will stay there tonight, taxi back to the start tomorrow, and walk back to Saltburn as planned. We decided to spoil ourselves as we were still wet and cold, picked a fancy expensive hotel for two nights on Booking.com, got a cab, drove there. It does not exist
REALLY
Honestly, so we get the refund, and WE STILL don’t have a bed
Well, we see a grungy looking bar, figure to go in there, ask a local. Turns out it’s a members only horse betting bar, “ go in first Nary Beth” NOPE, oh come on,
They took one look and dragged us in, bought a round, found us a bed for two nights, and would not let me pay fir the next round.
