Day ten walking- Scarborough to Filey 11 miles

Woke up somewhat sad , realizing that this was the last section of the walk. The sun was fighting it’s way through the mist, but it was cold and windy.

The last leg of the 110 miles

Goodbye to Scarborough

We left our last night stop behind and walked to the end of the escarpment, stopping at a cafe on the way for breakfast. By the time we came out of the cafe, the temp had dropped another 8 degrees, so, out came the gloves. It’s easy to put on more layers when it’s cold, but with all the climbing etc, and a pack on, there is a danger of building up a sweat, then you freeze.

I have found a thin cap, and gloves is the best way to monitor your temp.

We passed Knipe Point, and worked our way along the cliffs to the ridge over Clayton Bay.

Looking down, we could see twp old WW2 gun emplacements that had tumbled down onto the beach as the cliffs have deteriorated over the years.

Typical English summer camp trailer park, this is a popular way fir the English to own summer beach homes.

The wind was howling now, and this turned out to be the coldest day of the trip.

BUT, it was still a great walk, and fulfilling mentally. MB was pretty quiet fir the last 4 miles, I think see, like me, was resenting the end of the adventure,,,, then just like that, there was the official end post of the Cleveland away,,,,, sadly it was a bitter sweet moment.

Still had a mile to walk to reach Filey, and we climbed down and walked in along the beach as it was low tide

The people along the way have been nothing but kind and generous, so interested in what we were up to, and always ready to help. The villages are all out of a fairy tale, and the food, especially the sea food, has been the best. I’ve loved walking with MB, who at times was the stronger of us two, always positive with a smile, never a complaint, still takes forever to get ready in the morning,

The last beach, on the last mile,-  Filey town

This , of all the walks I’ve done , is one of my favorites, but anyone thinking of walking this route, should first build up a healthy rapport with the stairclimber in the gym

Loved it, would do it all over again
